The new baby is here and you want to start her off in life with the best surroundings possible. For the first few months of her life, her blanket it probably the most important piece of clothing to her. Here are some tips to help you to choose the right one.
Baby blankets come in so many styles and colors that it can be difficult choosing which one to buy. But you want one that will provide a bit of visual interest and stimulation for the child. New born babies don't come out of the womb able to see colors as well as an adult . It takes a bit of time until they begin to develop their vision. It's generally during the first four months following birth that babies began to recognize and distinguish colors.
Even though colors matter, it's not so important that you should worry if you're choosing the right color or not. Researchers do believe, however, that in the first few months of their lives, babies primarily like contrasting dark and bright patterns. At this stage, the specific color doesn't matter, since they're unable to discern the difference between similar color shades - such as blue and green. Pastel colors are nice because they give her eyes bright colors to interact with. If you are buying the blanket before the child is born and you don't know the sex of the child, a neutral color is probably best.
One of the baby trends that has really caught on in past years is teething blankets. Most are really helpful to the baby and they're relatively inexpensive as well. These blankets usually come with "chewing tabs" on the edges on which a baby can chew. In fact, you'll often find that your baby likes her teething blanket so much that it becomes her favorite blanket and she doesn't want to be without it. Most quality teething blankets are sturdy enough to place in the washer and dryer many times before they start to show signs of wear. This makes them very easy to care for. In fact, you might consider getting at least two so if one is in the wash, your baby can still use the other one.
Eco-friendly clothing and baby-wear are the in-things these days. If this interests you as well, you will be glad to discover that these shops are becoming ever more popular and easy to find. Contrary to stereotypical stores, they strive to make sure that blankets, clothing, and toys sold by them don't contain pesticides, harmful dyes, dangerous metals, etc. Although not always successful, they try their best to provide 100% organic materials. When buying blankets for your child, be on the lookout for attached accessories or decorative items that could present a choking hazard. In the same vein, be aware of loosely knitted parts of the blanket that your baby can possibly tear off and put in his or her mouth. But, in our global economy, many toys and baby apparel are coming from overseas - and sometimes from countries that don't have our stringent requirements.
